RenderMan Pop-up Book: Carousel

This project shows the results of modeling and rendering a scene using Maya and Pixar's RenderMan for Maya. I decided to create a carousel-themed pop-up book with the oriental color appearance and paper-cutting style. As a beginner in using RenderMan, this project became a nice introduction for me to get familiar with the settings and functions, and utilize the very interesting "Presence" attribute to develop the multi-layer paper silhouettes for the shape of my carousel.

"Presence"

This pop-up book is designed in a way that heavily relied on RenderMan's Presence attribute. This attribute allows the user to input a basic black and white image, and RenderMan will output that image with white as the positive space and black as the negative. It allowed me to create shapes three dimensionally, which would have been much more difficult to achieve without the use of presence, especially like those with highly organic forms.
